Lake Conditions |

If you haven’t been to
Lake Taneycomo since the flood of
April 2008 you are in for quite a
surprise, especially if you fish the
trophy area above Fall Creek. First
and foremost, slow down and be
careful. There are new sunken trees
and new gravel bars; the bottom
contour and depth have changed
dramatically in many places. On top
of that they are running three or four
generators on Lake Taneycomo every
day. Just last week Water Rescue was
on the lake when a small resort boat
capsized from anchoring in the
current. Water levels have been
fluctuating from 704 feet on two
generators to 710+ feet on four
generators. You can call 417-336-5083
to find out current lake levels and
the number of generators running on
Lake Taneycomo. I call this number
often while on the lake. They will
sound a horn at Table Rock Dam when
one or more generators are coming on
line, but they do not sound the horn
when they are taking generators off
line, so the water depth can and does
change throughout the day. In typical
years, visibility in the water above
Fall Creek in the trophy area is
anywhere from 10-15 feet plus. Right
now water clarity on a daily basis
above Fall Creek is about 4-7 feet
with the sun right over your head and
there are very limited areas where you
can actually see 7 feet deep. If you
have any questions regarding lake
conditions or water generation, please
don’t hesitate to call me at
417-619-9377. |
